Group description
Museum Education on Mediterranean Maritime Heritage working group explores the role of museum education in interpreting, preserving, and communicating Mediterranean maritime heritage. It aims to bring together museum professionals, educators, researchers, and community practitioners interested in developing educational approaches connected to maritime cultures, coastal communities, traditional knowledge, and contemporary challenges affecting the Mediterranean region.
Objectives of the group
- Promote dialogue and cooperation between museums, educators, researchers, and maritime heritage professionals working in the Mediterranean context.
- Encourage the exchange of educational methodologies, good practices, and participatory approaches related to maritime heritage interpretation and communication.
- Support the preservation and dissemination of Mediterranean maritime heritage, including both tangible and intangible cultural expressions.
- Foster community engagement and intergenerational transmission of maritime knowledge, memories, and traditions.
- Explore the role of museums in addressing contemporary environmental, social, and cultural challenges connected to the sea and coastal communities.

- Development of collaborative networks between museum professionals, educators, researchers, and local communities.
- Sharing of educational resources, workshops, exhibitions, and public programmes connected to Mediterranean maritime cultures.
- Encouragement of interdisciplinary approaches linking heritage, education, social inclusion, and environmental awareness.
- Contribution to the visibility and recognition of Mediterranean maritime heritage within museum and cultural heritage debates.

- Maritime museums, local and regional museums, ecomuseums, community museums, and heritage centres with connections to coastal and maritime cultures.
- Museum educators, curators, mediators, researchers, conservators, and cultural heritage professionals working in formal or informal learning contexts.
